FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Stinky Meets Sustainable: PlantCream Co. Elevates Vegan Cheese with Aromatic New Line
A Delicious Step Forward in Ethical, Eco-Friendly Cheese Innovation

TORONTO, ON, October 15, 2024 – PlantCream Co. is launching a groundbreaking line of vegan cheeses, including the world’s first plant-based versions of the famously stinky Limburger, Camembert, Époisses, Roquefort, Blue and Taleggio. Made from fermented soy with a unique blend of cultures and enzymes, these cheeses deliver bold flavours, aromas and melting properties like no other. These sustainable, protein-packed cheeses will be available at major retailers across Canada, including Loblaws, Whole Foods, and Farm Boy, starting October 20, 2024 – just in time for fall gatherings.
Up until now, no brand has attempted to replicate the complex flavours, pungent aromas, and melting properties of these beloved cheeses in a cruelty-free, sustainable, plant-based form. The company has developed an innovative fermentation process that transforms soy into rich, flavourful cheeses that offer the same distinct funk and creamy textures of traditional dairy cheeses. Additionally, each serving is packed with four grams of protein, making PlantCream Co.’s products a nutritious alternative to other plant-based cheeses that often lack protein.
“Going vegan today is easier than ever, with plenty of alternatives for things like beef and chicken. But cheese has been a real challenge,” says Hunter Gutman, founder, PlantCream Co. “Many plant-based options just don’t measure up in taste, aroma, or texture. I struggled the most with giving up cheese on my vegan journey. I realized we needed to create plant-based alternatives that truly capture the essence of traditional cheeses. The more we can improve these options, the more people will be drawn to veganism, whether for health benefits, ethical reasons, or environmental concerns.”
PlantCream Co. first made its mark by offering plant-based versions of classics such as mozzarella, cheddar, and cream cheese, finding early success at farmers’ markets and independent retailers. A pivotal moment came when the company placed third in the smoked provolone category at the 2022 World Championship Cheese Contest, competing directly against traditional dairy cheesemakers. Building on this achievement, the PlantCream Co. team ventured into more daring and unconventional varieties. Collaborating with expert cheesemakers, mongers, and a diverse panel of vegan and non-vegan tasters, PlantCream Co. showcases its dedication to flavour, craftmanship, and innovation in the new line of cheeses.
“We’re not just launching a new product; we’re changing the way people think about plant-based food,” states Gutman. “These cheeses are more than an alternative – they’re a celebration of sustainability and creativity. We want to show the world that giving up dairy does not have to mean giving up truly great cheese.”
